SEALAND councillor Christine Jones told the Leader that she will today be demanding action from highways officers in a bid to make the road safer.

She said: “It is beyond belief. I haven’t got over last week’s crash yet and another tragedy has happened already.

“That road is a death trap and I have been asking for months for something to be done about it.

“I will be speaking to highways officers to see if we can get a highway light installed, because it is a very dark stretch of road.”

Queensferry councillor David Wisinger, who lives next to the scene of yesterday’s crash, said: “It’s such a shock. We have been concerned about this road for a long time.”

A number of groups set up on the social networking site, Facebook, are calling for improved conditions on Sealand Road.

One member of ‘Make Sealand Road A Safer Place’, wrote: “Better lighting is needed at the very least.”

Another group, ‘Petition for Flintshire County Council to sort out the A548’, has attracted more than 700 members.

Mike Evans, the group’s creator, told the Leader: “The road is not very well-lit and there are no accident warning signs. I work for a local council and I know what measures should be in place.”

Dave Faulkner, head of highways and transportation at Flintshire council, said: “In all fatal collisions the local authority work closely with North Wales police to try to establish the cause.”

Witnesses to either crash or anyone who saw Mr Sutton’s car being driven before the accident should call North Wales Police on 0845 607 1002.
