A COMMUNITY leader has come up with a bright idea to save a threatened Flintshire post office.

Bagillt councillor Mike Reece has been campaigning to find a new location for his village post office since it was temporarily closed down in September.

Plans were drawn up to move the post office into McColl’s newsagents on the high street, but they have recently fallen through.

Now Cllr Reece has written to Colin Everett, Flintshire Council’s chief executive, to ask if the council-owned village library could step in to provide a short-term solution.

Cllr Reece said: “The main problem we have had in finding a new location for the post office is the fact that most places do not have enough space.

“The library would be ideal until we could find somewhere permanent.”

Following a request last week from North Wales AM Mark Isherwood for an update on the situation, a spokesman for Post Office Ltd said: “We have held discussions with local businesses.

“However, we would still like to hear from any further interested businesses or individuals who could provide suitable premises.

“Post Office Limited would like to apologise for the ongoing temporary loss of the post office services in the village of Bagillt.”
