A RAPE trial came to an abrupt and unexpected end today after a hotel chef changed his plea to guilty in Chester Crown Court.
After nearly two weeks in court, Mark Caunce, 21, who had initially denied the charges, admitted to rape and of inflicting grevious bodily harm on a woman who had been on a night out in Chester.
A third charge of sexual assault was discharged from the trial by Judge Nicholas Woodward. Caunce, of Victoria Road, Buckley, is a chef at Best Western Queen Hotel, City Road, Chester.
The court is expected to set a date in about eight weeks for sentencing.
