ONE of tragic Flintshire couple Paul and Jean Laithwaite’s sons is regarded as destined for a bright future in competitive motorsport, according to a racing company director.

Quentin Laithwaite has been a rising star in the racing world for several years, winning scores of competitions in the Northampton-based Westfield Championship.

Steve Wooding, director of Northampton Motorsport, said he has known the family for several years.

He added: “It was such a shock to us when we heard what had happened.

“They were a very wealthy couple and were absolutely top of their field.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with Quentin and the family at such a sad time.”

A picture posted on the photo sharing website Flickr shows Quentin tearing round a track in a car emblazoned with the logo of his father’s vehicle fitting company, Deefab.

According to Northampton Motorsport’s website, he ‘dominated’ the 2005 Westfield Championships, winning six races and taking three second place and two third place titles.

He finished every race in the season and looked likely to take ‘a runaway victory’, but fellow racers Nick Flowers and Nick Sinfiled matched his successful run.

Mr Wooding said: “Quentin is very talented and I used to see his dad sometimes at competitions.

“All of us in the Westfield Championship are thinking of him.”

Quentin Laithwaite is also a director of Stockport-based motor sales firm, Taurus Bodies.
