A WOMAN has thanked a caring Wrexham taxi driver who helped carry his passengers’ luggage down a mile-long hill in treacherous icy conditions.

Ida Griffiths paid tribute to the efforts of driver Mark Jones who helped her mother and father, who live in the Nant, Coedpoeth.

They were returning home from visiting Ida’s family, who moved to the United States, and were picked up by the taxi driver from Manchester airport.

“It was an uneventful journey back, until the heavy snow which prevented the taxi from reaching their house,” said Ida, who lives in Memphis with husband Andrew and two daughters 16-year-old Hannah and 11-year-old Charlotte.

“Without any hesitation the driver helped my parents carry their luggage all the way down the hill and made sure that they got in the house safely."

“I would like to thank the taxi driver very much for his kindness and thoughtfulness."

AN 80-year-old woman thanked a taxi company for bringing her essential food in the wintry conditions.

Edwina Bull, of Mountain Street, Rhos, was left housebound because of the snow and ice.

When she was running low on bread and milk, Mrs Bull called Crown Cars in Rhos who happily went to get her the food and brought it to her door.

Mrs Bull normally hires a taxi into Wrexham every week to go shopping but has not been able to get out because of the treacherous conditions.

“I was getting a bit down and I thought my friends at the taxi office might help,” she said.

“They said they’ll fetch the shopping and then I paid them at the door. It’s like wartime spirit.”

Lois Atkinson, receptionist at Crown Cars said: “A lot of our customers during the daytime are old people unable to get out. I’m a lot younger and I think, if I’m stuck in, what about the elderly?”
