BIN collections and council meetings in Wrexham were suspended yesterday.

The A5104 between Llandegla and Bryneglwys was closed due to a mixture of ice and snow.

The meeting of full council which had been due to take place last night was postponed until Monday.

The local authority’s register office were forced to prioritise appointments for the registering of deaths while birth registrations were postponed.

A citizenship ceremony scheduled for yesterday was also cancelled.

Refuse collections were suspended across the county but collections for the remainder of the week were due to recommence this morning.

Cllr David Bithell, lead member for environment and transport said: “Following overnight snow attempts were made to collect refuse but crews had to return back to the main council depot.

“All available resources will be deployed to areas across the county to clear snow from outside schools and help elderly residents in maintaining access wherever possible.

“The council together with our gritting fleet will continue to work all through today and overnight in an effort to resume normal services on Thursday morning.”

Twenty-eight schools out of 77 were open across Wrexham and AS exams went ahead as scheduled.

The start of term at Glyndwr University has been delayed until Monday.

The county’s leisure facilities were all open as normal with the exception of Coedpoeth.
