A WOMAN says she has been left traumatised after her pet dog was mauled by a rottweiler in Flintshire.

Tessa Gell, of Connah’s Quay, was walking her five-year-old Japanese akita near Highmere Drive in the town on Sunday when she said the rottweiler, being walked by a family, attacked.

Tessa, 36, said: “I noticed the rottweiler was not on a lead, so I decided not to walk past it.

“I went off in another direction and the next thing I knew, the dog was running up behind us, growling and snarling.

“I was terrified. I didn’t know whether it was coming to attack me or my dog, Akisha. It jumped on Akisha and it must have weighed about eight stone.

“I started screaming for someone to help me. I was holding on to Akisha’s lead and I got dragged in to the road.

“Luckily a man was nearby clearing ice off his car and he tried to drag the rottweiler off.”

Akisha was left with four puncture wounds to her face and legs and had to be taken to the vet for antibiotics.

Tessa called the police but said she was told no action could be taken because the rottweiler had not attacked a person.

She added: “I’m going to be scared every time I take the dog out for a walk now. The experience was awful and I still feel sick.”

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “Mrs Gell was visited by an officer and was offered advice.”
