Families from across Flintshire gathered to enjoy a successful fun day with a celebrity guest.

There were donkey rides, face-painting, refreshments, stalls and raffles for all ages to take part in as well as a variety of fun games at Mostyn’s annual community fun day.

The fun day also had Welsh actor Spencer Wilding, Star Wars’ new Darth Vader, as a special guest who attendees were thrilled to meet.

There were also performances from a variety of talented groups including Mostyn Revolutions morris dancers and the Cambria Band.

Organisers raised £882 which went to the Mostyn community fund, for future events and play schemes in the village, and to Karina Vaughan and her family who are raising funds for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.

Miss Vaughan and her fiancee Scott Holt, of Flint, have been raising money for different events for months to give something back to the Liverpool hospital staff who helped save the life of their baby son Kane.

Kane was born with gastroschisis, a serious condition where a child’s abdomen does not fully develop in the womb and the intestines form outside the body.

The one-year-old needed intensive care at the hospital as soon as he was born and had to stay in hospital for 11 weeks due to additional complications. He has since been given the all-clear by doctors which his parents were delighted to hear.

Karina said: “Myself and Scott were overwhelmed by the turnout and want to thank everyone especially Jane [Jones] and Mostyn Revolutions for donating money towards a charity very close to our hearts.”

Organiser of the fun day Jane Jones said: “Mostyn’s annual funday was a success once again we would like to thank everyone who made our day a good one.

“Thank you to the Mostyn community for donations tins, bottles unwanted gifts etcetera and even money to go in the pot.

“If it wasn’t for our community we couldn’t do it so when we do pull together it is fantastic.

“Thank you to everyone that donated fantastic gifts and to the Cambria Band once again for opening the show, you truly are amazing.”

The proceeds given back to the Mostyn community will also be used to organise a party for the children of the village to give thanks to the parents for their support of various community events.
