A GROUP of dancers enjoyed World Cup glory in Germany while representing Wales.

Elsberdance, from Buckley, have returned from the Dance World Cup in Offenburg, Germany – where they claimed a gold medal and three bronzes for their country.

The Dance World Cup sees more than 12,000 dancers, aged four to 25, attempt to qualify for the final – which is held in a different location each year.

After becoming an annual event in 2004, it is now the largest international dance competition for children and more than 40 countries take part.

Dancers perform a variety of genres from classical ballet to
hip hop.

Rachel Catherall, principal of Elsberdance, said: “We as a school are so proud of these dancers and all they achieved in Offenburg, Germany.

“We won gold for junior song
and dance trio with Olivia Millington, Melissa Jenkins and Nel Meirion.

“In the same category, we won the bronze medal with Erin Ramsey, Esme Kennedy and Robyn Morgan.

“We won another bronze medal with Sasha Hayes in junior acro dance and then a third bronze in junior tap group with All About the Geek. This is such a fantastic achievement as the standard was so incredibly high. We managed a top half placing in almost every category we entered.

“The dancers have improved so much this year and to get amongst the medals is such an honour.

“We’d like to thank the local community and businesses who helped us fundraise to get the dancers to Germany, we are just so proud to return home knowing we did our best and with a handful of medals to show for it.”

The dancers returned from their hectic week on Sunday night and have gone straight into rehearsals for Elsberdance’s production at Theatr Clwyd next week of The Dream.

A spokesman from the theatre said the Buckley performers will show “incredible choreography, exceptional dancing and song,
with special effects that will blow your mind”.
