MOVIE stars and film characters are guarding the properties of a Wrexham village.

Legends of the big screen have popped up outside houses and businesses in Holt in recent days.

The village’s popular scarecrow trail has returned ahead of Holt’s annual Midsummer Fair on Saturday, July 8.

Both the fair and trail are organised by the Holt Under-5s Playgroup to raise funds for the group.

Last year the theme was sports heroes and the year before it was popular fictional children’s TV and film characters.

This year has seen film icons from Marilyn Monroe to Darth Vadar spring up all over Holt as the community comes together.

There is a quiz questionnaire to go with the trail and the winner will be announced at the fair which is organised to raise funds for the playgroup.

Playgroup leader Helen Jowett said: ”It is something which is growing year on year and we are so pleased at how the community comes together to support us.

“It is a huge part of our fundraising initiative so we are grateful for everyone coming together and pushing the boat out to support us

“Because the weather is so good, some of the scarecrows may stay up even longer this year.

“This year the theme is films and film characters so you will be able to see a character from the Lion King, Mary Poppins, Snow White and Seven Dwarfs, as well as a couple of Indiana Jones.”

She added: “On the day of the fete there will be a Total Wipeout assault course, a licensed bar, all the usual stalls and a barbecue.

”Everyone is welcome to come along and support the playgroup.”

The Holt Midsummer Fair takes place on the village green, from 3pm to 8pm on Saturday, July 8.
