Firefighters will continue to monitor a fire at a popular beauty spot.

Crews were called to a gorse fire which was started deliberately at Panorama Walk near Llangollen on Sunday.

Following a reassessment carried out on Tuesday evening, the fire will be allowed to burn as representatives from the service maintain a watching brief.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Fire crews have been in attendance at a mountain fire in the area of Panorama Walk, Llangollen, since Sunday.

“Following [Tuesday] evening’s reassessment, and due to the location of the fire, the decision has been made to maintain a watching brief and allow the fire to burn.

“North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is aware of the situation and the concern of those who might see the fire, however, arrangements have been made to re-attend in daylight hours.”

Firefighters fought the blaze from shortly before 7.30pm on Sunday until the early hours of Monday and kept watch until shortly before 7am, nearly 12 hours later.

Three pumps were used to fight the initial blaze, which was made difficult to extinguish due to the wind conditions.

On Monday, the service was called back out to the blaze after 30 square metres of gorse and bracken was found to be still burning at about 10pm.

They used five beaters to extinguish the blaze, which was put out shortly after 10.30pm.
