A petition calling on the new HMP Berwyn near Wrexham to change the name of its Bala wing has gathered 500 signatures.
The petition was started by Bala resident Llinos Jones-Williams and calls on the prison’s governor, Russ Trent, to remove the town’s name.
Between the 350 who have signed online, and those circulating on paper, the petition is now half-way to the target of attracting 1,000 signatures by Easter.
Meanwhile, the Gwynedd county councillor for Bala, Dilwyn Morgan, has asked for a meeting with Mr Trent to discuss the issue.
