THE mother of one of Britain’s most successful cyclists has died following an accident on Deeside.
Carol Boardman, mum of Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman, died during the early hours of Sunday after she was involved in an accident with a pick-up truck.
Mrs Boardman was riding her bike in Connah’s Quay on Saturday afternoon when she was struck by the vehicle.
Chris Boardman from Hoylake, Wirral, posted on Twitter on Sunday afternoon that his mother died on Sunday morning as a result of her injuries.
A statement issued yesterday by North Wales Police says: “The cyclist injured in a road accident yesterday at Connah's Quay has sadly passed away.
“We were called to an accident on July 16 at 13.54hrs at the roundabout on Mold Road, Connah’s Quay with the junction of Ffordd Llanarth.
“The cyclist was taken to hospital via ambulance with serious injuries, and sadly later died.
“We can confirm the name of the deceased as Carol Boardman.
“Police are renewing their appeal for anybody who may have witnessed the collision to contact officers on 101, quoting reference number U104385.”
