A FAMILY fun day will be held on Saturday to raise funds for new school equipment for children with special needs.
Ysgol Pen Coch in Flint will stage the event at the school on Saturday, July 2, at 11am, with a range of family-friendly activities for everyone to enjoy.
Star Wars Storm Troopers and a number of Dr Who characters will be present and children will have the chance to ride on a quad bike, get up close to a bird of prey and have to create giant bubbles with Dr Zigs amazing bubbles.
A bouncy castle will also be available, as well as a range of different stalls and the chance to take part in a raffle.
All money raised goes towards funding an interactive sensory and a learning room for pupils at Ysgol Pen Coch.
The interactive system will help children with special needs to adapt to situations by using different senses, which can often be a challenge for them.
A masquerade and a bonnie baby competition will be held for an additional charge to help fund a trampoline for the school.
Carol Griffiths, treasurer of Friends of Ysgol Pen Coch charity, said: “We’re a small school with around 90 pupils who all have special needs.
“We need to raise £20,000 all together to fund the new equipment. It’s quite a big project for the school.
“Children on the autistic spectrum sometimes have a sensory processing disorder which means they don’t like certain noises or smells.
“The new equipment will give them an interactive experience which helps them to adapt to certain situations.”
Gates will open at 10.30am on Saturday for the cosplay masquerade and registration for the bonnie baby competition .
