PLAY ON – that’s the message from the Wrexham Sunday League after they revealed it will be business as usual next season.

With only two teams signed on a week before the AGM, league officials feared the end of 44 years of Sunday League football in Wrexham.

But Keith Hale, the league’s co-founder and current secretary, said the show will go on after at least another eight teams said they will signing up for the 2015/16 season.

“The response I’ve had since the great piece in The Leader this week has been amazing,” said Hale.

“We should have at least 10 teams next season and we’ll definitely be carrying on for another year.

“My phone has not stopped ringing since Wednesday with people recalling their Sunday League memories and I’d really like to thank The Leader for highlighting our plight.

“It just goes to show that Sunday football is still popular.”
