A man has died following a road traffic collision just outside Wrexham town centre.

The fatal collision happened shortly before 9.30am on Sunday on Holt Road, near Caia Park, Wrexham, on the stretch of road between Archers Way and Hillcrest.

North Wales Police roads policing sergeant Raymond Williams confirmed a 56-year-old man died in the single-vehicle collision and involved a blue Ford Fiesta, which was heading east along Holt Road.

The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to a “medical emergency” at around 9.30am and the casualty was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101, quoting reference number V182387.

The road was closed for most of Sunday morning but it was re-opened shortly after mid-day.

Caia Park resident Martin Ford drove past the scene on the way to taking junior footballers from FC Queens Park to Chirk.

He said he saw police officers and praised efforts of the emergency services.

He said: ”If it had been a Monday morning it might have been even worse, as it’s usually busy along there.

”I feel so sorry for the family, it’s a terrible thing to happen to anyone.”
