Thousands gathered along with some celebrity guests to enjoy the “best carnival yet”.

Mold Carnival attracted a record breaking number of 6,000 people according to the town centre manager Dave Hill.

It has been running for around 15 years and is organised by volunteers of the Mold Carnival Committee every year with support from Mold Town Council.

The free event scored some star-studded guests including actor Spencer Wilding, who portrayed the Dark Lord of the Sith in the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Flintshire’s very own classical duo Richard and Adam and Big Brother star Kim Woodburn, of How Clean is Your House.

In keeping with the galactical theme, the UK’s largest independent Star Wars costuming group the 99th Garrison attended to greet and take pictures with fans of the franchise.

And Star Wars enthusiasts came along to the carnival and took part in the parade wearing costumes of their favourite characters.

To kick things off many took part in the carnival’s parade through the town centre including organisations from across North Wales.

Throughout the day there was a variety of performances on Mold High Street at the Main Stage for all to enjoy as well as a Mascot Race which saw mascots from animals to cartoon characters being put through their paces on Kendricks Field.

The carnival also featured a Second World War
re-enactment, dog show organised by North Clwyd Animal Rescue, rides, stalls and many other activities.

Mr Hill said: “We’ve had record numbers this year, there must have been 6,000 people here. It’s been the best carnival Mold has ever seen. It just seems to be growing year on year.

“The weather was great which always helps. It was absolutely brilliant. We had dancers in the Daniel Owen square and on the field there were bouncy castles and football being played – all sorts of things.

“All thanks go to the organising committee, in particular Jane Evans and Helen Perry, who are the main driving force behind all this. The committee make it happen for us year on year with support from the council.

“It’s the biggest and best free community event in Flintshire.

“Mold always has something going on and it really is a great little town.”
