A cinema held a free film screening for a man who has been given days to live by doctors.

The Gaumont Plaza in Flint, which opened last year, organised a private screening of Boss Baby, a new American comedy, for Andrew Growcott and his family and friends as he had been hoping to see the film since it was first released.

Mr Growcott, from Flint, has been fighting bowel cancer since he was diagnosed five years ago and it has now spread to his lungs, bones and muscles.

His close friend Ricky Nicholson said he was given “just days to live” a few weeks ago but he “keeps fighting”.

Steve Williams, manager of the cinema, organised a screening for the 42-year-old and about 55 people went to the free screening

They were also given free refreshments.

Mr Nicholson said: “I took my daughter to the cinema and I got chatting to the owner. He said all Andrew’s family and friends could come along to a screening free of charge.

“It was an opportunity to do something for him where he can be with his friends and family, considering he doesn’t have a lot of time left.

”It is a newly-opened cinema, they really are well thought of in Flint and this just goes to show why.

”It was a brilliant night. Steve just couldn’t have done enough. Andy was absolutely made up. Steve was so helpful he got the place all ready and cleaned up for the screening. He made everyone feel really welcome too.”

Mr Nicholson, a former world champion kickboxer, has also been organising a rugby match for his friend to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Andrew’s chosen charity, at 2.30pm on Sunday, April 30, at Flint Rugby Club on Marsh Lane.

The 43-year-old said: “Andrew was given just days to live a couple weeks ago but his mum said he is determined to come to the rugby event. He’s got the fight in him.

“Everyone in the town has been immense. I have had so much support for the rugby. We’ve raised £3,500 already for Macmillan. I did an online raffle and all the numbers have been sold already.

“The people of Flint always rally round to look after their own.”
