A YOUNG man was left traumatised after he was robbed at knifepoint in a Chester street yesterday.

The 19-year-old was withdrawing money from the cash machine outside the Post Office on Brook Street when he was threatened and pushed by a man holding a blade.

The offender then fled the scene – reportedly on a bike – and headed towards Egerton Street shortly after 11.30am.

Detective Sergeant Nick Henderson said: “I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the person responsible.

“Thankfully the victim was not injured as a result of the attack, although he has been left traumatised by his ordeal.

“I’d asked anyone with any information in relation to this incident to contact the team here at Chester so the offender can be brought to justice.”

Witness Stuart Stevenson, who runs Chester Comic Co on the street, told the Leader he dialled 999 after seeing the young man being shoved and robbed.

He said: “I saw a young man, who I assumed was a student, being mugged and he shouted out. I just phoned the police immediately.”

Staff at the Brook Street Cafe and Bistro said they had not seen anything but had handed over CCTV tapes to the police to help their investigation.

The offender is described as a white man who was wearing a white jacket, black trousers and a navy baseball cap. He was carrying a large rucksack and riding a dark coloured bike.
