A CHESTER student has been selected to take part in a course at the National Youth Theatre.

Tom Hayes, a year 11 pupil at Abbey Gate College, will take part in this year’s National Youth Theatre technical course.

He will spend part of the summer holidays living in London with others on his course and learning about various aspects of technical theatre including lighting, sound, AV, scenery, prop making and stage management.

To gain a place on the prestigious course, Tom had to undertake a vigorous interview and produce a detailed portfolio of work he has been involved with.

Tom already has a keen interest in this side of drama and is often asked to design the lighting for the annual school production, so the school looks forward to seeing all the new things he learns from his course.

A special mention was also reserved for James Maudsley in Year 10 who has been placed on the reserve list for this year’s acting course out of 10,000 applicants.
