A TEENAGER bit her mother as she tried to break up an argument in Wrexham.

Laura Ann Groom, of Acton Park Way in Wrexham, pleaded guilty at Wrexham Magistrates Court to assaulting her mother Narelle Anne Jones by beating her.

Justine Espie, prosecuting, said on June 23, Groom, 19, had been out drinking with her partner well into the early hours of the morning before they both returned home to Acton Park Way.

When at home an argument broke out between the pair and Groom’s mother Narelle Jones intervened. Groom then grabbed her mother and bit her on the hand before putting her hands around her throat and throwing her to the floor.

As pictures of her mother’s hand, which sustained heavy bruising and grazing, were shown to the court, Groom sobbed from the stand.

In interview Groom told police she had pulled her mother down and bit her after she had intervened in the argument.

Paul Abrahams, defending, said the relationship between mother and daughter had broken down. He said Groom described herself as having problems with anger management that needed to be addressed before relationships could be rebuilt.

Magistrates said they felt it was necessary for probation to compile a full report on Groom and the sentencing was delayed until August 7. Groom was released on bail under the condition she does not approach, contact or communicate with her mother Narelle Jones.
