A PARTY to remember a father-of-one from Shrewsbury will be thrown tomorrow night.

The body of Mark Hodnett, 27, was pulled out of the River Severn in August following a six-day search.

Friends have organised the celebration at C:21 nightclub in his memory, proceeds from which will be put into a trust fund for Mr Hodnett’s two-year-old son Oliver.

Taking the stage will be indie band The Clock Tower, of whom Mr Hodnett was a big fan.

There will also be DJ sets from Matt Weddercopp, Greg Greg, Lopephish and Colon, Jinjah and Bloodsucka, Wangy, DJ Ninja and Backlash.

Organiser Shaun Simister said: “We wanted to give Oliver something that Mark can no longer give him.

“Mark loved cars so the money in the trust fund could pay for a car for Oliver’s 18th birthday.

“Some people didn’t get to go to Mark’s funeral for one reason or another so this is their chance to remember him.”

Photogragher Matthew Everington, a friend of Mr Hodnett who will be taking professional pictures on the night, added: “We wanted to do something in memory of Mark that he would have enjoyed so this seemed the perfect way to do it.

“Everybody has paid their respects to Mark in their own way but this is the big thing we have all been looking forward to.

“Mark is gone but he will never be forgotten.”

Mr Hodnett, from Grange Road, Radbrook, went missing in the early hours of Saturday, August 13 after a night out with friends.

CCTV footage shows him leaving C:21 nightclub on Abbey Foregate and making his way towards the nearby English Bridge.

His body was later recovered close to the Kingsland Bridge.

More than 300 people signed the online petition ‘Fence off the Severn’ started by his friends calling for safety barriers along the river bank.

A taskforce including Shropshire Council, West Mercia Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was set up and railings have now been installed along a stretch of the River Severn near the weir and between the railway and St Mary’s Water Lane in a bid to improve safety.

Tickets for the party are £5 available from Shaun Simister on 07772 488136.
