DESPERATELY worried friends and family are still seeking a Shrewsbury father who has been missing since Saturday.

As Living went to press, father of one Mark Hodnett (inset), 27, had not been seen since the early hours of Saturday morning after a night out with friends on Friday night.

Fears were heightened after his shirt and mobile phone were found beside the River Severn near the Quarry.

A report was also received from a member of the public at around 5am of someone seen struggling in the river.

The West Mercia police helicopter, fire and ambulance crews were joined by the Severn Area Rescue Association at the scene near Victoria Avenue.

A search was carried out on both sides of the river and the surrounding area of town.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “There was a search on both sides of the water but we were unable to locate any casualties.”

Mr Hodnett left the C21 nightclub in Abbey Foregate around 1am on Saturday.

Friends and family have launched a Facebook group to appeal for information.

It says: “His family and friends are very worried about him and just want to see him return home safely. Please add everyone you know to this group.”

Detective Inspector Mick Homden said: “There is obviously growing concern about Mark. His family, friends and the police are anxious for any information which might assist the search.

“We are appealing for information to be forwarded to Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000 as a matter of urgency.”

DI Homden said Mr Hodnett was last seen walking over the English Bridge from C21 carrying a checked shirt. Mr Hodnett is 5ft 10in tall, of slim build with short, light coloured hair. He was wearing dark blue jeans, slip-on brown shoes and a
t-shirt.
