MUSIC legends Status Quo rocked all over Shrewsbury with a selection of their greatest hits.

Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt took to the stage at The Quarry and entertained a 7,000-strong crowd last Friday night.

The hour-and-a-half set kicked off with 1973 favourite Caroline and featured tracks from their latest album Quid Pro Quo.

Old classics - Whatever You Want, Down Down, and Rockin’ All Over the World closed the set before a firework display lit up the skies over Shrewsbury.

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Tony Durnell, popped backstage after the concert for a coffee and a chat with legend Parfitt.

He told Shrewsbury Living: “Rick told me it was a lovely venue and that he felt at one with the audience.

“I asked him if he would ever come back to Shrewsbury and he said he didn’t see any reason why not.

“He was absolutely shattered. You could tell that he had put every ounce of energy into the concert.”

The lifelong fan, who was at the concert with his wife Tricha, son Kurt, 35, and daughter Trina, 31, also had a chat with guitarist John ‘Rhino’ Edwards who agreed to send a signed t-shirt in the post for use in a charity auction.

“I was totally smitten by the whole set,” added Cllr Durnell. “They are brilliant when you hear them on CD or see them on the television but to see them live was a completely different animal.

“The old classics got everyone bopping and singing along.

“We went back to the 70s for a night. I embarrassed my children with the dancing.

We got chatting to people from New Zealand and Canada who were travelling the UK but had made the journey specifically to Shrewsbury so that they could watch Status Quo.”

Rock fans were given an additional treat when 10cc warmed up the crowds with their hits Donna, The Things We Do For Love and I’m Not in Love.

Cllr Durnell added: “10cc were on another planet too. In fact a lot of people were there just to watch 10cc. Status Quo were a bonus.”
