DETECTIVES investigating a robbery in which a pensioner was injured have recovered a stolen vehicle.

The 76-year-old victim suffered a head injury and fractured eye socket in the incident at his home in Loppington, near Shrewsbury, on June 21.

A white Ford Ranger pick-up truck which was reported stolen during the incident was traced to a village near Whitchurch on Friday.

Det Insp Mick Homden said: “We had been searching for a pick-up truck reported stolen from the address in Loppington since the night of the incident.

“We have recovered the vehicle which will now be subject to a detailed forensic examination."

More than 30 detectives and uniformed officers carried out house-to-house enquiries in Loppington following the raid.

The victim was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

DI Homden urged anyone with information to contact police.

He added: "I thank all of those people who have already contacted police as a result of our appeals and would urge anyone else who might know something that may help our investigation to please get in touch.”

Daniel Jones, 19, of Aynesworth Green, Shrewsbury, Matthew Wood, 18, of Noble Street, Wem, and a 17-year-old youth were arrested and charged with robbery.

They appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates’ Court on Monday and were sent for trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court and will return to court on July 4.

Police have also arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of robbery after he attended Whitchurch Police Station on Monday, and a 22-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender after he attended Wem Police Station.

Both were brought to Shrewsbury for interview and remain in police custody.
