FINAL preparations are being made to the star-studded Shrewsbury Flower Show.

Celebrity chef and I’m a Celebrity ...Get Me Out of Here star Gino D’Acampo will be cooking up a storm for the longest running flower show in Britain.

He will be showcasing Italian recipes at the Marches Food Hall, where he will present three cookery demonstrations a day.

TV gardener Chris Beardshaw returns for his seventh successive year and will talk about vegetable gardens in the Lecture Marquee and Children’s Area.

There will be Grade A show-jumping from national and international riders plus medieval jousting displays by The Knights of the Damned.

The Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team will also be showcasing their skills to music by 1066 Pipes and Drums each day.

Both days at The Quarry will be rounded off by a fireworks extravaganza.

Shoppers can get their hands on plants and produce to designer wear, arts and crafts on sale in the exhibitor and marquee areas.

Brian Goodwin, chairman of Shropshire Horticultural Society, said: “As new chairman I’m very much looking forward to this year’s show.

“Preparations are in hand with new exhibitors and events for people to enjoy.

“We’re looking forward to a period of splendid weather for the show.”

The origins of the show – in its 124th year – can be traced back to a Carnation and Gooseberry Show staged in Frankwell in 1836.

The first proper flower show by the Shropshire Horticultural Society was in 1857.
