NEW homes for Flintshire’s elderly residents have been given backing by the council.
Empty sheltered accommodation on Jasmine Crescent, Mold, will be demolished to make way for new bungalows which will have easy wheelchair access and disabled parking facilities.
Up to 40 two-bedroom homes will be provided for people who need ‘extra care’, and a further 20 will meet the needs of dementia sufferers with carers on hand to help with daily tasks.
The homes will be in easy reach of Mold Community Hospital.
Cllr Bernie Attridge, deputy leader of the opposition, welcomed the move.
At a planning meeting at County Hall on Wednesday he said: “A lot of work has gone into getting this far.
“We are going that extra mile for people with dementia and learning disabilities and I fully support this application.”
The work will go ahead despite objections from Welsh Water who say it would overload the existing sewerage system.
Concerns were also raised from neighbours that the site is too large and there would be a shortfall of parking spaces.
