Staff came together to thank a nurse retiring after 30 years at Wrexham Maelor hospital.

Ward staff held a tea party on the Pantomime Ward to say a big thank you and farewell to Sister Gillian Jones.

The nursing management team expressed their sincere thanks for the support and commitment that Sister Jones had showed to the hospital and to the NHS.

Sister Jones worked in the Surgical Arrivals Unit from 2008, where she provided support and reassurance to patients who were being admitted for surgical procedures.

Acute matron Sandra Silcock said: “I’d like to thank Gill for her support, loyalty and her sense of humour.

“Every Friday she used to bring cakes to the ward and write a poem which you could read. It was available to anyone on the ward. Her cakes and poetry are amazing and we’ll miss them.

“Gill has been a valuable member of our team over the years and I’m proud of what she has achieved in her career.”

Ms Jones, from Penycae, said: “I’ve loved every minute of being a nurse. I still think it’s a fantastic career. The people that you meet are amazing.

“I’m not quite retiring entirely. I’m taking over a pub, my daughter-in-law runs it currently so we are swapping. She’s becoming a carer and we’re going to run a pub.”
