THE 10 councillors who walked out of the Labour party amid an ongoing row have joined forces with another group.

Leader of Wrexham Council Cllr Neil Rogers was among the 10 to split from the previously 23-strong Labour group on Wednesday, throwing the future of the council’s leadership into question.

But the Leader can reveal today Cllr Rogers and his fellow ex-Labour members have formed a new group with the Democratic Independents, led by council deputy leader Mark Pritchard.

Cllr Pritchard said no decision had yet been taken on who would lead the new group.

He said: “A decision was made last night that the ex-Labour councillors will be join us to form a new group of 20.

“No decision has been taken on the leadership of the group and we are open to other groups who want to come in to talk to us.

“The most important thing is that we form a new administration and move forward for the future of Wrexham and the people of Wrexham.”

Cllr Pritchard added a decision over who would lead the new group would be taken shortly.

The move comes ahead of a full council meeting on September 24, where the political make up of the executive board and any potential changes to the leadership of the council are expected to be ratified.
