Wrexham trio clock up cash with cycling marathon

THREE friends have beaten “headwinds from hell” in a gruelling ride to raise more than £1,600 for a centre which looks after children with disabilities.

Dom Lowe, 22, Alun Prydden, 51 and Lee Eason, 29, all from Wrexham, completed their mammoth saddle challenge in Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

Their target was to raise £1,000 but just two days after completing the ride, they have already smashed it and raised £1,615.

The money will go to the Wrexham-based Dynamic Centre, which supports children and young people with disabilities and life-limiting illnesses.

Following the gruelling ride, Mr Eason said: “We aimed to do more than 200 miles each and started from Wrexham on the Friday morning.

“By the end of the day we had made it to Kendal in Cumbria, which was 130 miles.

“That was the hardest part because the weather was poor – we had the headwind from hell and pouring rain.

“We just concentrated on keeping up the pace and avoiding any punctures. It was very demanding.

“It was tough the next day too, coming out of the hotel carrying our bags on our backs and going up massive hills for most of it – but we made it as far as Carlisle.”

Mr Eason added that the ride was not all hard work.

“It’s a really beautiful part of the country to be able to ride in and it felt great when we finished it,” he said.

“On the last day, we made it to Gretna in Scotland and realised we needed to clock up a few more miles to reach our target, so carried on to Annan.”

Mr Eason said the charity the group rode for is close the trio’s hearts.

“We chose Dynamic because it’s a local charity and we know someone who volunteers there,” he said.

“We know the money will be put to good use and help children who can really benefit from it.

“We are still taking dontations and are very greatful to everyone who has sponsored us.”
