A PUB which closed its doors more than 18 months ago could be demolished to make way for new houses.
Plans have been submitted to Wrexham Council proposing the demolition of Brynteg Inn in Long Lane, Brynteg.
If the application gets the nod, eight new houses would be built in its place.
The pub originally closed in December, 2012, when former owners Enterprise Inns gave then-landlord Scott Griffiths short notice the pub was to be sold and closed down.
The eight properties will all have two bedrooms and will consist of a mix of semi-detached and terraced houses. There will also be 16 spaces for car parking.
The application states the building was bought by the current owner in July, 2013 and was put back on the market shortly afterwards.
But there has been very little interest in the property since then.
The disused pub is located near Broughton Hall, a grade-II listed building.
Documents submitted supporting the application said: “The existing building is of a poor quality design with a very prominent position in relation to the listed building behind.
“This creates a very unattractive streetscene that does not complement the historic building adjoining the site.”
According to the application, the increased traffic the development would create would not be detrimental to road safety because of the large number of other residential properties in the area.
And an existing footpath running along the front of the site will remain in place.
A design and access statement concerning the proposed housing development said the application should be looked on favourably and adds “there are no justifiable reasons for refusal”.
The statement added: “The development will provide much needed low cost housing within the village of Brynteg. It will replace an existing, redundant, unattractive building with a modern, attractive development that seeks to enhance the visual appearance of the area and provide improved views toward the listed building behind.”
No date has yet been set for the proposed plans to go before Wrexham Council’s planning committee.
