Second hole-in-one for Chester golfing veteran

A 78-YEAR-old amateur golfer is celebrating achieving an unexpected second hole-in-one.

Mold Golf Club member Philip Le Brocq, 78, of Chester, said his golfing skills were not what they used to be and it was “many, many years” since he first achieved what is usually considered a once-in-a-lifetime feat.

But he showed age is no barrier to golf success with his second hole-in-one.

“I would think it would be at least 40 years ago since the first one,” said Mr Le Brocq, a retired managing director.

Mr Le Brocq, who plays golf two or three times a week, scored his ace on the 192-yard, par-three 10th hole, but the 21-handicapper said he hadn’t been playing particularly brilliantly the day he made his prize-winning shot.

Playing with two friends during a qualifying round of a club competition, it was on the 10th hole he struck gold.

“I couldn’t see it go in but I thought I heard the ball hit the stick,” he said.

“My companions weren’t sure though so we went to see and I had one of them look while I watched.

“I was delighted. We all were. It doesn’t happen very often.”

The double hole-in-one star treated everybody to a drink back at the clubhouse.

He has been rewarded with membership of the BOSS Watches H1 Club and a limited-edition BOSS watch.

The German brand has pledged to reward club golfers with an exclusive watch for every hole-in-one recorded during a club competition this year.

Stephen Brydon, commercial director for MGS Distribution which distributes BOSS Watches, congratulated Mr Le Brocq.

“A hole-in-one is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” he said.

“We want to ensure golfers have much better memories than merely a dent in their bank balance after buying drinks in the clubhouse.”

Mr Le Brocq added: “Other members kept asking me the time, so I thought I’d better do something about it.

“Now I keep trying to do it again.”
