A GROUP of women from across the region are set to scale Mount Snowdon for charity – while hoola-hooping.

The gang of instructors from fitness group Hoola Nation are to take on the incredible feat next month in the hope of raising about £2,000.

Sasha Kenney, of Wrexham, will join six other instructors in attempting to walk and hoola at the same time to the peak of the tallest peak in Wales.

The instructors are raising the funds for children’s charity Sparks, Flintshire Mind and Cancer Research UK.

Sasha will be joined by Laurie Owens, from Hawarden, Julia Portsmouth, from Chester, and Helen Bowness-Hughes, who lives in Wrexham and teaches classes in Flintshire.

They will be joined by three other instructers from North Wales and the North West.

Sasha said: “We thought it would be really crazy for the instructors to hoola hoop up Snowdon for a good cause really.

“We are training hard for it – obviously our fitness needs to be pretty good, which it is because we are all instructors.

“We went up Moel Famau recently and the reaction from people was hilarious.

“Obviously it’s not something people think they are going to see.”

The feat is the second hoola-hooping fundraiser for Sarah, who broke a World Record in 2012 by completing the London Marathon while hoola hooping.

She completed the famous 26.2-mile course in five hours, raising £5,000 for the NSPCC in the process.

Sasha said: “I was really pleased with the time and the money we managed to raise.

“This time we wanted to do something that might be even harder.

“It was just a crazy thing we decided to do - something crazier than the marathon.”

Sasha said she was sure the challenge would prove difficult for the group.

She said: “It is very hard work and we all train super hard.

“We are going to start really early to beat the crowds because we need a bit of space to get up.

“We’re not setting any specific times, we just want to do it.”

The other instructors involved include Cerys Williams, from Shropshire, Amanda Holt, from Shropshire, and Casey Calvert Schoegl, of Ruthin.
