A MANSLAUGHTER investigation surrounding the death of a company director has been dropped after a man arrested and bailed in connection with the death died.

Nicholas Lloyd Davies, a director of the Lloc Service Station near Holywell, died in hospital on November 25 last year five days after receiving treatment from a private practitioner for a stiff neck.

An 80-year-old man from the Holywell area had been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter through gross negligence.

But the man, who was bailed by police pending further inquiries, has since died.
As such, police have confirmed the criminal investigation into the matter has now ceased.

Det Insp Mark Hughes, of North Wales Police, said: “An 80-year-old man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter through gross negligence has since died. North Wales Police are therefore no longer conducting a criminal investigation into the matter.

“The coroner has been informed and the matter has been forwarded to him.”

An inquest into the death of Mr Davies opened on November 27, identified that he had received medical treatment from a private practitioner in relation to a stiff neck.

North East Wales coroner John Gittins told the inquest Mr Davies had collapsed and become unresponsive soon after and that an ambulance had been called.

The inquest also heard the practitioner had indicated the treatment was provided with the full co-operation of Mr Davies.

A post mortem examination had called for further tests to be conducted in order to determine the cause of Mr Davies’ death.

A date for the full inquest hearing was not set.

Family tributes made at the time of Mr Davies’ death described the 47-year-old as “a wonderful gentleman and loyal son and brother” as well as “a true gent”.

They said news of Mr Davies’ death had “devastated” family and friends.

The tragedy had been the second to strike the Davies’ family in the space of just a few months after one of Mr Davies’ other brothers, father-of-three Chris, died in a motorcycle crash.
