A FLINTSHIRE woman has given an emotional appeal on national television after her boyfriend died following an attack at a music festival.

Robert Hart, 26, from Macclesfield, died after being punched to the ground while defending his girlfriend, Gemma Parry, at the Heaton Park music festival in June.

Miss Parry, who grew up in Buckley and whose family still live in the town, appeared on BBC’s Crimewatch programme as part of a police search for potential witnesses to the attack.

Her partner of two years stepped in to protect her after she was repeatedly struck with an inflatable doll at the Parklife Weekender Festival.

Mr Hart died in hospital on Wednesday, June 11 – five days after the assault which left him with a bleed to the brain.

Speaking on Crimewatch, Miss Parry, 32, described Mr Hart as her “best friend” and said after being hit, he had stopped breathing.

“His mouth was blue and wide open,” she said on the programme.

“I was screaming to get an ambulance or help him.

“People were telling me he was alright but he was far from it.”

Mr Hart, who grew up near Macclesfield was taken to Salford Royal hospital but deteriorated and died from his injuries five days later.

Miss Parry added: “I’m facing a future which is dark and lonely and without hope.

“Someone has taken that away from me and all Robert’s dreams and ambitions.”

She added: “This guy didn’t come to the festival to kill anyone.

“But when someone says they don’t want any trouble and when he punches someone with so much force and violence, whether he wanted to or not, he has killed someone.”

Officers from Greater Manchester Police are still hunting Mr Hart’s attacker and want to speak to festival-goers pictured in the area of the attack at around 9.15pm on Saturday, June 8.

DI Richard Eales, senior investigating officer, said: “We are keen to talk to the people identified in the pictures as potential witnesses to the attack.

“We would like to stress they are not in any trouble whatsoever, but we believe they could unknowingly have mobile phone footage or pictures which could be crucial to the investigation.”

Police have released an image of Mr Hart and Miss Parry taken at the event in the hope of jogging the memories of crowd-members and an aerial photograph shows where the attack took place to the right of the main stage.

They have also released an e-fit of the suspect.

The man is described as mixed race, in his mid 20s, about 6ft 1in, and of muscular build. He had short dark hair which was shaved at the sides and was wearing a dark coloured, waist-length jacket and dark coloured shorts.

He was with a white woman, in her early 20s, who is about 5ft 7in tall and was wearing a pink top and dark jacket.

DI Eales said detectives were also looking for any pictures revellers may have taken in the area of the attack.

He said: “While we have already received hundreds of images, we still need more. If you were to the right of the main stage between 9pm and 9.45pm, in the area highlighted on the picture, then we would like you to get in touch.”

GMP spokesman Chris Terris Taylor said officers had been pleased with the response from the public as a result of the Crimewatch appeal.

He said: “Robert’s tragic death elicited an overwhelming response nationwide, but the investigation is still in a position where officers need witnesses to come forward with information.”

Following the broadcast, GMP was able to identify seven of those they wished to speak to but is still looking for a further five of the potential witnesses.

Anyone with information should call the incident room direct on 0161 85 69283 or email the incident room on mit.syndicate8@gmp.police.uk with any relevant footage.

Alternatively you can call police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
