SPEEDING bikers travelling at more than 100mph were clocked by police over the weekend.

One motorcyclist was caught on the A5104 to A494 in Mold travelling at 103mph.

Another was flashed travelling on the A5104 in Treuddyn at 104mph.

The speeding bikers were caught as part of Operation Darwen, North Wales Police’s campaign to crackdown on dangerous motorbike riding.

Supt Rob Kirman, of North Wales Police, said: “We have seen a recent increase in the number of bikers being injured on the roads and we will continue with Operation Darwen over the coming months with extra patrols and further engagement with riders.

“Operation Darwen is one of many campaigns and initiatives we run throughout the year targeting high-risk road users.

“It is not about alienating the motorcycling community – I’m a biker myself and I love to get out and about on the roads of North Wales.

“Operation Darwen is about education, enforcement and most importantly biker safety.”

A total of 19 bikers were caught breaking the speed limit over the weekend
across North Wales.

Supt Kirman added: “While the vast majority of motorcyclists ride appropriately, some riders choose to use the roads as a racetrack, committing serious breaches of road safety legislation, such as speeding and riding dangerously thereby putting themselves and other road users at risk of death or life changing injury.

“We are committed to keeping people safe on the roads of North Wales – we want them to enjoy the roads but most of all we want them to ride safely and responsibly.”

Elsewhere in North Wales, the campaign – which will run until the autumn – has clocked a speeding biker travelling at 103mph on the A5 at Cerrigydrudion.

Earlier in the campaign a biker was clocked riding at 119mph on the A494 and another was clocked at 125mph on the A5104 at Bryneglwys.
