UP TO 20 jobs will be created as part of a multi-million deal to relocate a transport firm.

Distribution and storage specialists Edge Transport in Llay has bought a six-acre site on Deeside Industrial Estate.

The multi-million pound move will create up to 10 new jobs over the next two years.

It will also provide employment for up to another 10 agency workers over the two-year period.

The Deeside site, formerly owned by Dandy’s Topsoil, will be developed to include a purpose-built 100,000 sq ft warehouse, a storage area and an office block.

The site will allow the business to expand to meet increasing demands for warehousing and distribution.

A third generation family business, Edge Transport is based in Llay after being founded in Hoole, Chester in 1933.

Operating a fleet of more than 30 vehicles, the company provides a delivery service for more than 500 customers across the UK.

Managing director Jonathan Edge said: “While our existing site has served us well, it is time to move to a larger site.

“We have been looking for the perfect site for quite a while and were delighted when this site came on to the market.

“It’s ideally situated, gives us plenty of scope for expansion and will help us build a robust business for the future.”

Mr Edge added: “We’re delighted that our existing staff will be making the move with us and will be part of our long-term future.

“With plans to take on more apprentices and expand the training we currently offer for staff, the new site will help us to enhance our investment in our people.”

It is expected the new Deeside site will be fully operational by May next year.
