THE First World War inspired green-fingered children to show their gardening credentials.

Competitions by Caia Park Environmental Group were for all primary schools in Caia Park and the Wrexham Early Years Centre.

Children from Hafod Y Wern and St Anne’s schools enjoyed taking part in a mini gardening contest on the theme of the First World War.

Younger children from Hafod Y Wern, St Anne’s and Gwenfro schools and the early years centre took part in a colouring competition featuring a picture of a poppy.

Older children from Hafod Y Wern, St Anne’s and Gwenfro schools made medals out of recyclable materials. The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr T Alan Edwards has been to the schools and early years centre to present children with prizes.

Environmental group chairman Dorothy Mitchell said: “The children put so much hard work into it.

“The results which they produced were of a very high quality and they can all be proud of what they have achieved.”
