A FAMILY is teaming up to take on a mammoth hiking challenge to help their daughter join in with a unique event.

Chloe Stark, 13, of Mold, is attempting the Three Peaks challenge with her family in a bid to raise £3,000 to take part in the World Scout Jamboree in Japan next year.

Chloe, who attends Mold Alun School, has been selected as one of only 90 Scouts and Explorers in the country to represent Wales at the Far East jamboree in 2015.

Now she will scale Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike in a bid to make the dream a reality.

She said: “It’ll definitely be a challenge but I think I’m prepared.

“I’m very excited to do it but I’m nervous that I’m going to slip up right at the end or not be able to make it.”

So far she has spent more than 50 hours taking part in various fundraising events, including bag packing event in supermarkets, car boot sales and cake sales.

Chloe added: “We’ve got a lot to raise and I’ve got about £1,500 already but we’re hoping to get a lot of sponsorship for this.”

Her father, Spencer, who will join Chloe on the walk along with mum Becky, and brother, Cameron, 12, said: “We’re a bit nervous, we leave just before midnight on Sunday to get to Ben Nevis and hope to get started around 6am.

“My wife Becky attempted the challenge last year and I’ve done it many, many years ago. We take part in a lot of mountain walking as a family anyway.”

The trio will attempt to climb up and down the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales, all inside 24 hours.

During her trip to the Japan jamboree next year, Chloe will be joining more 30,000 Scouts and Explorers from all over the world to talk about world issues, including peace, the environment, human rights, health, disaster mitigation, cultural exchange and science.

They will also be involved in local community projects and  visit Hiroshima, where atomic bombs were dropped during the Second World War.

Mum Becky said: “It is vital that we get Chloe to Japan, she had to apply then get called for selection and we were waiting on pins to see if she’d was selected.

“We’re so proud of her, she’s worked so hard for this.”

Anyone wishing to sponsor Chloe should get in contact with the family via email at chloesjamboree fundraising@gmail.com.
