TOO much homework, nagging teachers or playground bullies – many schoolchildren would do just about anything to wangle the odd day off school.

But the opposite is true for one dedicated secondary school pupil who did not miss a single day in five years.

Come hell or high water, Alex Harrison, a pupil at Flint High School, was always there when the morning bell rang.

She managed to record a 100 per cent attendance record in years seven, eight, nine, 10 and 11 at the school.

The 16-year-old, who has just sat her GCSE examinations, said she enjoyed her time at the school too much to miss a day.

Now she plans to be back in the classroom soon, as she is hoping to become a teacher.

She said: “I just really like going – I like the school, the teachers and everyone there. It’s just an absolutely great place.

“The teachers there are all so nice and they are so supportive.First of all I’m going to come back to the school for sixth-form – they won’t get rid of me that easily. I want to go to university and become a teacher so I’m always either learning or teaching.”

Alex’s amazing record means she has never even succumbed to illness over the five-year period.

She said: “I have always been well enough to go into school as well so I must have a great immune system.

“There have been a few days where I have felt a bit ill but I made sure I didn’t go home.”

Alex, of Flint, said the array of extra curricular activities on offer at the school also made her enjoy her time there even more.

She said: “I have tried to get involved with everything.

“I always try to be in the school shows because it is quite a good thing to do. Also I have been travelling a lot with school – we just came back from Poland.”

She has been a peer mentor and head mentor while at the school.

Flint High School’s headteacher Pamela McClean said: “This is a remarkable achievement for any student and reflects Alex’s passion for school and a love of learning.

“She has been an asset to the school and a credit to her family.

“We’re looking forward to her joining our sixth-form in September and following her career path towards becoming a music and drama teacher.

“I am so proud of her and wish her every success for the future.”
