Mold Carnival attracted about 5,000 visitors yesterday.

Parades, music and a talent show all hit the streets of the town on Sunday in the latest event to take centre stage in a bustling calendar of public events.

Finalists from Britain’s Got Talent 2013, Adam and Richard Johnson, from Holywell, performed before a crowd helping to create a carnival atmosphere.

They were joined by fellow finalist from the ITV show, 15-year-old Gabz and Simon Cowell lookalike Andy Monk to judge this year’s Mold’s Got Talent final, which was won by singer Harry Smallman, 12, from Connah’s Quay.

Mold’s first ever carnival prince, Anthony Bagani, four, of Buckley, was crowned along with this year’s carnival queen, Alaw Pritchard, 17, of Mold.

Glamorous grans took their place in the limelight for an older people’s beauty pageant, which ran alongside this year’s bonny babies.

And with the parade winding its way through the town, visitors also got the chance to see Mold’s inaugural mascot race, with a wolf, a Smurf, a large brown bear and even a recycling bin tackle obstacles.

Mold town centre manager Dave Hill said: “Thankfully the rain held off and the crowds came out.

“There were at least as many people as there were last year, so I’d say there was more than 5,000.

“Everyone had a fantastic day of fun and great thanks must go to the volunteers who made it happen as well as the joint chairmen of the organising committee, Helen Perry and Jane Evans.

“They’ve done a fantastic job in bringing Mold Carnival to the community.”

Mayor of Mold Cllr Carol Heycocks added: “What a fantastic day! It makes me proud to be from Mold.”
