THOUSANDS gathered to see the towering Pontcysyllte Aqueduct bathed in colourful light.

An evening of music and a spectacular light show was held at the UNESCO World Heritage Site near Llangollen.

Underneath the Arches, which featured a laser show beaming light onto the world-famous aqueduct, took place on Friday night.

Huge crowds gathered for the spectacular show and took picnics and chairs on to the football field below the aqueduct to enjoy the evening.

Festivities included music from a host of local bands, including The Big Beat, Rhythm Train, Luke Gallagher and The Avenues.

And after the laser show, the night was rounded off with a fireworks display.

Alex Tizzard, 33, from Rhosymedre, was among those in attendance.

He said: “There were thousands of people there. It was a fantastic event for the area.

“There was a great atmosphere among everybody and it was a real community event that people of all ages had come out to support.”
