FIVE female generations of one family have been united for the first time.

Almost a century separates youngest from oldest, but the quintet were getting on famously when the Leader dropped in to pay them a visit.

Lal Nield, from Broughton, celebrates her 94th birthday on Monday.

And she received an early birthday present when she met the newest addition to the family, her great great-grand-daughter Isabelle Sofia Hurley, for the first time.

“It is something special, really lovely,” Mrs Nield said.

The five were gearing up for Mrs Nield’s birthday celebrations and she
was joined by daughter Anne Leach, 69, grand-daughters Diane Doran, 50, and Tricia Hughes, 42, great grand-daughter Abi Roberts, 21, and adorable Isabelle, who was born 12 weeks ago.

Mrs Hughes told the Leader: “It is the first time we have all been together.

“Lal has always been giving us plenty of tips to help us along.”

Mrs Doran said: “We are a close family and we all get together for special occasions.”

Mrs Nield’s family said she was well-travelled and even once flew on Concorde to New York.

Mrs Hughes added: “We all used to say she needed to have a flag at her house to hoist when she was in because she was always out and about so much.”

Most recently, Mrs Nield enjoyed the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which is currently celebrating the fifth anniversary of being granted UNESCO World Heritage status.

She took a trip along the stretch of the canal on a barge last week with her daughter, who regularly accompanies her to bingo.

But the list of Mrs Nield’s visitors didn’t stop there as she received birthday wishes by two other baby great great-grandchildren – 16-week old George Doran and 17-week-old Ivy Doran.

Mrs Doran’s sons Thomas, 26, and Gavin, 24, fathers of George and Ivy respectively, have also been celebrating the birth of their recent arrivals along with new mums Kerry Davies, 27, mum of George, and Ivy’s mother Linsey Speed, 25.
