Llandegla road victim left in 'critical' condition

A MAN who recently underwent a kidney transplant is fighting for his life after a serious motorbike crash.

Alan Ireland, of Windsor Road, Rhos, had to have a kidney removed at Wrexham Maelor Hospital after the accident.

Yesterday afternoon he remained in a criticial condition. He will be transferred to hospital in Stoke as soon as his condition allows.

The crash happened on the A525 between the villages of Bwlchgwyn and Llandegla, near Wrexham, at around 8pm on Tuesday.

A Ford Focus was in collision with Mr Ireland’s motorcycle.

Police Insp Steve Roberts said the rider of the bike was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Mr Ireland, who recently had a kidney transplant, has had to have the kidney removed at the Maelor.

His pelvis broke in the crash and smashed into his transplanted kidney.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said yesterday: “We were called at 8.02pm to reports of a road collision involving a motorcycle and a car on the A525, near Llandegla.

“Two ambulances attended and a man in his 50s was taken to hospital.”
