A MAN who died after taking an overdose of medication tablets told police who tried to revive him: “I don’t want to die anymore”.

Police officers were sent to an address in Cross Street, Wrexham, after receiving a report of a man had taken an overdose of tablets.

It was believed Darren John McKillop, 47, made the initial report himself just before 12.30pm on February 9.

PCs Robert Stevenson and Gaynor Humphreys found the door locked but heard screams coming from a male inside and the door opened.

Mr McKillop fell to the ground in the doorway on his back.

PC Stevenson said Mr McKillop appeared aggressive but told him: “It’s not me, it’s the tablets.”

PC Stevenson tried to reassure Mr McKillop, whose arms were flailing.

He said to PCs Stevenson and Humphreys: “I don’t want to die anymore”.

An ambulance was called but Mr McKillop started to deteriorate and became unresponsive.

A visual check confirmed he had stopped breathing and the two officers tried to revive him, only stopping when paramedics arrived to take over.

Mr McKillop was put on a stretcher and taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital at about 1pm.

But despite continued efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead just before 1.30pm.

A post-mortem revealed he had taken a large quantity of tablets used to treat heart conditions as well as anti-depressants.

The cause of death was recorded as an overdose of the two medications.
Coroner for North Wales (East and Central) John Gittins returned a conclusion of accidental death.

He said: “For me to return a conclusion that this was suicide, I must be certain beyond reasonable doubt that this gentleman intended to harm himself and that he did so with the intention of bringing his life to an end.”

Mr Gittins added the conversation Mr McKillop had with police and the fact that he had phoned them to tell them he had taken an overdose meant he could not be satisfied it was a suicide.
