A cancer sufferer has spoken of his horror after discovering his town centre flat had been burgled.

Retired Barry Williams, 67, who has oesophageal cancer, returned in the morning to his Chapel Place flat on Poyser Street, Wrexham, to find the door wide open and valuable property taken.

He had been staying with his elderly mother and sister to rest after chemotherapy treatment, but rushed straight back when he heard he had been victim to a burglary.

He said: “I’ve got cancer and was at my mother’s in Fenwick Drive recuperating when I received a phone call from a neighbour to say my door was open and some of my stuff was gone. I don’t know how they would have got in because the door was locked when I left it.

“A large TV and speakers have been taken. The TV is massive, I don’t know how they got it through the door. They went for all the electronic stuff, which must be worth nearly £1,000 altogether.

“I was shocked. It’s frightening and it shakes your confidence completely.”

Mr Williams added: “My mother is

90-years-old and quite unsteady, so I worry about her safety because if this sort of thing can happen to me, it could happen to her or anyone else.

“I have to spend a lot of time resting and I could have been there in bed when they broke in.

“Who knows what would have happened? I’ve lived there for 10 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. I’ve got cancer of the gullet and am still receiving chemotherapy. I used to be 13 stone, but I’m down to eight stone now. I’m in pain all the time and wear a heart monitor.

“A nasty shock like this is not good for my health. I just want to see whoever did it caught.”

The burglary took place on Friday, June 27.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “We can confirm a burglary at the address was reported on the morning of June 27, and a number of items were taken, including a television and a radio.

“If anyone has any information about this incident, they can contact police on 101. The crime reference number is R097082”
