ALL was on track at a family fun day held by railway enthusiasts.

Wrexham and District Model Engineering Society held an annual open day at its miniature track and station near the Pant yr Ochain on the Old Wrexham Road, Gresford.

Running from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sunday, the event attracted about 300 visitors.

Members exhibited a range of hand-built locomotives, and gave members of the public the chance to ride the machines around their 850ft track. Exhibits included a scale replica of the Foxcote Manor locomotive – a 23-year project built by member Steve Carter.

Society member Chris Newton said: “It went very well. It was very laid back. and we had a wonderful display of members’ projects. Some of them were really top class.”

Fellow member Dave Wilson said: “The weather was pretty good really, apart from a very light shower.

“We did quite well – we had six different engines running throughout the day."

The next event held by the engineering society at its track will be its annual fundraiser in aid of Nightingale House Hospice, from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, August 17.

Events include tombola, face painting, train rides throughout the day and a variety of stalls. A raffle with prizes donated by businesses in the area will also be held.

The society runs trains along the track every Sunday, from noon to 3.30pm.
