A VICTIM of abuse at a Wrexham care home is calling for a public inquiry following the Westminster child abuse allegations.

Home Secretary Theresa May has told MPs the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) will lead a review into the Home Office handling of historic allegations of child abuse

Smithfield councillor Keith Gregory, who was abused at the Bryn Estyn care home as a teenager, says any inquiry needs to be totally transparent.

He also says he is bidding to bring proceedings against against those he believes allowed the abuse to happen

Cllr Gregory said: “There should be a public inquiry into child abuse in Westminster.

“You can’t have MPs looking into MPs as it is like the police looking into the police.

“It needs to be totally independent and get the truth out there in public once and for all.

“I know lads who were sent to London as rent boys after care and taken to paedophiles to become sex slaves as they had no other alternatives.

“These are lads who were at Bryn Alyn and Bryn Estyn. The Jillings report proved we were right but that was ripped up.

“We’ve been saying it all along and it’s disgusting how long this has taken. But the police have their hands on the records now so hopefully something can be done. At the time, to us, these people were just visitors to the home, we weren’t aware of who they were, but we are now.”

Cllr Gregory says he will continue to fight for the truth to be heard . He added: “I’m instructing my solicitor to look into proceedings against the government and, the Clwyd and Denbigh council as it was.”

The NSPCC review by Peter Wanless, which will take eight to 10 weeks, will look at the Home Office investigation but also how the police and prosecutors handled the information.
