ROLF Harris has been stripped of his role as honorary vice-president of the famous Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir after his conviction for sex crimes.

The veteran entertainer, who was jailed for five years and nine months for 12 indecent assaults involving four girls, had held the position at the choir, which is based in Froncysyllte, near Llangollen, since 2010.

Harris recorded a duet with the Fron choir featuring the song Two Little Boys for the 2008 album, Voices from the Valleys.

After his sentencing at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, choir chairman David Jones spoke of the “revolting” moment Harris – a respected family entertainer for more than four decades and a man he thought he knew – was convicted.

“We are all shocked and saddened by the news,” he said.

“Initially, when the allegations were made, we did not want to judge him as everyone is innocent until proven guilty in my eyes.

“But then the news came out this week and the best way to describe our feelings was one of revulsion.

“As a choir we are obviously very sorry for all the victims.

“When we had our association with Rolf it was a wonderful relationship. He was a larger than life character and we all warmed to him, he had everything you want from an entertainer, fantastic voice, he was a great pianist.

“People automatically warmed to him.

“But he appears to have duped the public, everyone he came into contact with and he had this darker side.”

Following the recording with Harris six years ago, the choir took part in a series of concerts with the entertainer, including one performance in Oswestry, which was filmed by the BBC, and another in London.

“We had a great year with Rolf,” Mr Jones added.

“When we made him honorary vice-president it was because of the strength of feeling for him here, and he gladly accepted.

“He kept that title right up until this week, when it was revoked.

“We had a series of photos with Rolf on our website which have also been removed.

“It’s been a painstaking process and we can’t quite believe it.
