A LEADER journalist has had her first novel published.

Rhian Waller, 29, of Mold, who writes for the Wrexham, Flintshire and Chester Leader, will see the launch of her debut novel, Eithe’s Way, on June 27.

She said: “It’s now available on Amazon, through a small publishing house called The Write Factor, which picked it up after I entered it into their Shortlist 2013-2014 competition and it won first prize.”

Ms Waller is a former student at Glyndwr University in Wrexham, where she studied to become a journalist and wrote the novel as part of a creative and critical writing PhD at Bangor University.

Explaining the title of her novel, Rhian said: “My book is called Eithe’s Way.

“It’s a strange name, pronounced Ee-thee, but don’t worry. There’s a good reason for that and it’s explained on the first page.

“The story is a complete fiction, but it’s set in various places across Europe that I visited after scraping together some money by working two jobs at university.

“It features shadows, danger, violence, romance, weirdness and fantasy. I want people to get involved with it.

“You can interact with one of the characters by following @The_Mirror_Man on Twitter or by searching ‘Eithe’s Way’ on Facebook and ‘liking’ the page.”

The novel tells the story of a young woman called Eithe, who lives in England with her controlling fiancé.

Rhian said: “He’s called Joe King, but he does not have much of a sense of humour when Eithe goes out for a celebratory drink with her workmates without his permission.

“Terrified at the thought of what he might do to her, she jumps out of her window and runs away, but during her escape she becomes mixed up with another, much more mysterious figure.

“This new man offers her a bargain: if she follows clues that might reveal his name, he will give her the means to escape her impending marriage – but he has dark secrets, and Joe is hot on her trail.”

Rhian said she wanted to thank her friends and family for helping her put the book together.

l Eithe’s Way is available on Amazon priced £7.99 . A Kindle edition will also be available soon.
